Community Calendar

MINNESOTA LAKE - Minnesota Lake will hold their "Home Town Christmas" celebration on Saturday, December 20 at the Kremer House Library and Museum on Main Street in Minnesota Lake, on Saturday, December 20.  The Cookie Sale and Sing Along will begin at 12noon and Santa arrives at 1:00PM.

Christmas Vacation Bible School

MANKATO - A one day Christmas Vacation Bible School, for ages Preschool through Grade 5, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Mankato, on Saturday, December 20.  There will be a morning session from 9AM to 12noon and an afternoon session from 1 to 4PM.  Lunch will be served from 12 noon to 1:00 for both morning and afternoon sessions.  Registration is preferred by calling 507-345-3027.

Silent Auction

WALTERS - A Silent Auction, to fund the Jordan Mutschler Scholarship, will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 9:30AM at the Fire Hall, in Walters.

Cowboy Church

OSAGE - Cowboy Church will be held at 6PM on Sunday, December 21, at the First Baptist Church, in Osage.

Living Christmas Card

MANKATO - Grace Baptist Church, in Mankato, will have their annual "Living Christmas Card" on Sunday, December 21 at 10:30AM.

Christmas Concert

DUNNELL - Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Dunnell, is hosting a Christmas Concert at 2:00PM on Sunday, December 21 featuring pianist, Glenn Henriksen.  There will be coffee and treats in the fellowship hall after the program.

Latino Boy Scout Program

MANKATO - The Twin Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, will have a meeting to introduce their Latino Boy Scout Program on Sunday, December 21 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Mankato, after mass, which is held at 1PM.

"A Night in Bethlehem" Christmas Eve Program

BUTTERFIELD - The Christmas program, "A Night in Bethlehem", including an interactive production for 'tourists', will be held on Christmas Eve, December 24, at the Butterfield Community Bible Church at 6:30PM.

Christmas Day Dinner

FAIRMONT - The Christian Church, of Fairmont, located at 625 Johnson Street, is offering a free dinner on Christmas day, December 25 from 12noon through 2PM.

Christmas Hymn Sing

MOUNTAIN LAKE - First Menonite Church, located at 305 North 7th Street in Mountain Lake, will host a Hymn Sing and Reading of the Christmas Story on Christmas morning, Thursday, December 25 at 10AM.

Ruby's Pantry

Kiddie Basketball Camps

NORTHROP - Kiddie Basketball Camps will be held every Saturday morning in January at Martin Luther High School in Northrop. There will be skill sessions for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade and for grades 3 and 4. Generation to Generation Antique Auction

NORTHROP - The Generation to Generation Antique Auction, which benefits the Student Tuition Aid Fund and the Student Tuition Aide Endowment Fund of Martin Luther High School, in Northrop, will be held at the school on Saturday, January 10 beginning at 9:45AM.

BLUE EARTH - The Blue Earth Lions will hold their Brunch on Sunday, January 11 at the Blue Earth Area High School Commons serving from 9:30AM to 12:30PM.

Ongoing Events

ALGONA - Half-life sized figures of the Nativity, crafted by German prisoners-of-war, while interned at the Algona Prisoner-of-War Camp in 1945, will be open over the holiday season at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds, on the south side of Algona, just west of Highway 169.  Hours are: Saturdays and weekdays - 2 to 8PM ~ Sundays and Christmas Day - Noon to 8PM ~ Closed at 6PM on December 31.

BUFFALO CENTER - There will be a Blue Grass and Gospel Jam every 2nd Thursday of the month, from 6 to 9PM at the Heritage Town Center, located on Highway 9 west of the fire station in Buffalo Center.  A lunch will be served by the Buffalo Center Historical Society.

EAST CHAIN - Ruby's Pantry will distribute food in East Chain on the 4th Saturday of every month from 10AM to 12noon at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church which is located at 507 280th Avenue, in East Chain.

FAIRMONT / BLUE EARTH - Grief Support Groups will meet on eight consecutive Tuesdays, starting September 23 at two different locations.  First, from 1 to 3PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center "Corral Room", in Blue Earth and in Fairmont in the Sunroom of Lakeview Health Services from 6:30 to 8:30PM.

MANKATO - A discussion group for Grandparents and Relative Caregivers, who are raising the next generation of children, will meet from 6 to 7:30PM on the 2nd Thursday of each month at New Creation World Outreach Church, on highway 169 in Mankato.  Childcare and a meal will be provided and you are asked to RSVP, for childcare and meal, by calling 507-380-7210.

MANKATO - Celebrate Recovery meets every Friday at 6:30PM at Hillside Church, which is located at 502 South Victory Drive in Mankato.

OWATONNA -  Daybreak Community Church in Owatonna, hosts a Recovery Meeting for anyone who wants to work through habits, hurts, and hang-ups, on Mondays  from 6:30 to 7:30PM. The church is located at 2515 Harvest Lane in Owatonna.

ALBERT LEA - Single Moms Weekly Fellowship Group will be held each Wednesday from 4 to 6PM at First Presbyterian Church, located at 308 Water Street in Albert Lea.  This is a free event that includes child care with a nursery for young children and the KidZone Ministry for K-5th grade.  For more information you can contact Carol Cerney at 507-373-8423.

MAPLETON - The Community Closet, which is located above the Plaid Piper Floral in Mapleton, is open 9AM to 12Noon every Saturday.  Proceeds go to non-profit organizations in the Maple River Area.

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield Area Food Shelf is now open weekly on Monday nights from 5 to 7PM and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 at Schwanke Engines, located at 804 East Rock Street in Springfield.  For more information you can contact Jan Schwanke at 507-723-4120.

WELLS -  Community Suppers will now be held in the Good Shepherd Social Hall in Wells, on the first Tuesday of each month from 4:30 to 6:30PM.  If you are willing to provide, prepare, and serve a meal for a month please contact Ron Wegner at 507-456-3698 or Linda Hagen at 507-553-5057.

MOUNTAIN LAKE/ WINDOM - Through the Senior Nutrition Program, meals are served daily at 11:30AM at the Community Center in Mountain Lake and Windom.  To reserve or cancel a meal you may call Windom before 8AM at  1-866-985-8513.  You are asked to reserve a meal one day in advance at the Mountain Lake location by calling 507-427-2151.

WELLS - The Clothes Closet, a non-profit Thrift Shop in Wells, offers clothing  for everyone on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday - each week -  from 11AM to 6PM.  All proceeds of The Clothes Closet go to local ministries.  Used items can be dropped off for donation during store hours. 

SHERBURN - MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, meets every other Tuesday at 10AM at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn.  All moms that are expecting or have children that are kindergarten and under are welcome to attend.  For more information you can contact Amber at 507-236-1328

NEW ULM - Compassionate Friends, a Grief Support Group for parents, grandparents and siblings who have lost a child, meet at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm on the last Monday of each month at 7PM.  Questions can be directed to Judy Kastman at 507-359-2737.

WASECA - Faith United Methodist Church of Waseca, is having 'Food at Faith', in which they give out a cartful of assorted food for only $20 on a first come, first served basis on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10AM to 12noon.  The church is located at 801 Fourth Avenue NE in Waseca.  For information you can call 507-835-3167 or email at

GAYLORD - United Methodist Church of Gaylord is offering home-style suppers every Wednesday from 5 to 6:15PM followed by a brief worship time.  The church is located at 318 4th Street in Gaylord.

WELLS - The Wilderness Prayer Center located south of Wells, will host " Worship In The Wilderness" the last Friday night of each month at 7PM, as well as prayer and worship meetings every Tuesday night at 7o'clock.  More information, including directions, can be found at

WINDOM - The Evangelical Free Church in Windom has a Men's Breakfast at 7:30 on the last Saturday morning of each month. The church is located at 416 10th Street in Windom.

FAIRMONT - The "Grief Coffee Group" meets each Thursday at 3PM in the Fairmont Medical Center.  The women's group and the men's group will alternate every week.  For more information you can call the Fairmont Medical Center Hospice at 507-238-8600

ALBERT LEA - All mothers of children ages birth through kindergarten are invited to attend the Albert Lea MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, which meets the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30PM at Crossroads Church in Albert Lea.
